SUMMARY

The On-Call Substitute assists with all classroom activities, prepares, and serves snacks and lunches, cooperates with Head Start staff in providing the best possible programming. They work with children and families in the classroom and perform other duties as assigned by the teacher.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Works in collaboration with the Head Start staff to assist in the classroom and help with duties needed that day. Duties may include:

•Implements daily lesson plans. 

•Implements local, state and Head Start federal guidelines.

•Works with children individually and in groups and accompanies the class on field trips.

•Works with Head Start staff to prepare, serve and clean up snacks and lunches and participates in mealtimes.

•Assists with cleaning and maintenance of the center.

•Assists in maintaining a safe indoor and outdoor environment in all aspects of the program.

•Attends team meetings, Head Start and CAP Agency trainings/meetings and other trainings as assigned.

•Welcomes, assists and supports parents and other volunteers in the center.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines 

•Prior Early Childhood experience and previous experience working with children with special needs preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

•Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds and climb stairs. 

•Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old and possess a high school diploma/GED. Current Infant/Child First Aid and CPR Certificate preferred.

COVID-19 REQUIRMENT: The Office of Head Start is requiring all Head Start employees to complete their COVID-19 vaccination series by 1/31/2022, or upon starting date, unless the Scott Carver Dakota CAP Agency approves a medical or religious accommodation as required by applicable law. New employees must submit vaccination documentation or be approved for an exemption/accommodation before beginning work.

•Classroom policies and procedures.

•Methods and techniques to assist children with educational and recreational programs.

•Basic principles of record keeping and records management.

•Personal computers utilizing standard software.

•Safety rules and regulations.

•Exercising good judgment in all situations.

•Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.

•Effective verbal and written communication.

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
