The Purpose of Committees

Within the General Membership, we maintain several standing committees.
Each member is allowed to select their Committee of choice to focus their efforts. 

Below is a list of those committees and their focus for Association work.

Professional Development

The purpose of this committee is to:

  • be effectively involved in planning, conducting and evaluating in-service, career development or any other training programs at the state, regional and national levels concerned with child and family development,
  • promote opportunities for professional and workforce development of Head Start staff,
  • provide opportunities for family growth and development, develop close coordination, collaboration and cooperation with all public and private organizations and businesses to provide professional development opportunities for staff, families and community organizations in child and family development.
Finance & Policy

The purpose of the committee is to:

  • maintain and recommend amendments to the Minnesota Head Start Association’s By-Laws and attachments to the By-Laws, a procedures.
  • oversees MHSA’s finances and funding
  • annually re-examines the dues structure for member organizations
  • explores and recommends MHSA fundraising opportunities
Data & Outcomes

The purpose of the committee is to:

  • provide guidance on data collection and data distribution
  • ensures all data privacy practices are followed
  • plan for the sustainability of the Minnesota Head Start Data System
  • create a revenue generating model for operating a data bank
  • develop continuous quality improvement and make decisions about the operations for the “data hub.”
Advocacy & Family Voice

The purpose of the committee is to:

  • prepare and support a legislative platform annually.
  • lend support to all members leading to the upgrading of Head Start in the state of Minnesota.
  • develop close coordination, collaboration and cooperation with all public and private organizations and businesses that concern themselves with child and family development.
  • advocate and promote involvement of Parents, Friends, Staff and Directors within and beyond Head Start at the local, county, state, regional and federal level.
  • conduct appropriate public relations to enhance the recognition and reputation of the Head Start program.
  • address the inclusion and racial diversity work to strengthen the cultural competence at all levels of the organization and local programs.
Scholarships & Awards

The purpose of the committee is to:

  • promote, receive and award applications from MHSA member agencies for the Minnesota Head Start Association Scholarship and Awards Program on a yearly basis.
  • coordinate other child, parent and staff recognition events.
  • view National Head Start Association awards and scholarships here.

The Minnesota Head Start Association could not do its work without many partners. Many voices make a strong movement.
