Lakes and Pines Head Start serves children ages 0-5 and pregnant parents in Center-Based and Home-Based settings throughout our 7-county service area. Our Home-Based option consists of weekly 1 ½ hour visits, facilitated by a trained Home Visitor and planned by parents. Activities include age appropriate experiences that are specifically designed for each child. This option also includes socializations for an opportunity to interact with other parents and children in a classroom setting. Our Center-Based options include full-day Head Start & Early Head Start Centers, part-day centers in partnership with local school districts, and partnerships with Child Care Centers and Family Child Care Providers. Center-Based options follow a structured curriculum, with age appropriate activities and regular meetings between parents and staff. All teaching and home visiting staff are trained in Early Childhood Education and have ongoing professional development opportunities. All options are 4-star Parent Aware, the highest rating available. Additionally, our program is able to provide references to many resources and will work with families to help them reach their goals. We also have a collaboration with Aitkin, Chisago, and Pine Counties to provide an Early Childhood Resource Coach in a program called WRAP- We Rally Around Parents. This program connects families with the resources they seek, helps to navigate barriers or transitions, introduces age-appropriate parenting techniques and coping skills for challenging situations, promotes health and wellness and self-care, supports parent living with a mental illness, and assists with goal-setting.
