CAPRW Head Start offers both center-based and home-based programming in Ramsey County. Our center-based program provides children ages 6 weeks to 5 years with a safe, high-quality educational environment, along with health, dental and nutrition services. Across 14 sites, we have several program options. Part day (3.5 hours per day) and extended day (7.5 hours per day) options run Monday through Thursday on a school year calendar. Families who receive Child Care Assistance or an Early Learning Scholarship are able to access our full day (10+ hours per day) option, which runs Monday through Friday year-round. Free transportation is available for many of our families. Our home-based program provides infants, toddlers and pregnant mothers with weekly 90-minute home visits in which families receive supports such as child development activities, information and education; physical and mental health, dental and nutrition education; and referrals to community resources. We have many collaborations that help us to meet the needs of our community. One of our centers is located in St. Paul Public Schools’ teen parent program, where we operate infant and toddler classrooms. Along with Fraser, a local provider of mental health services for children and adults, we operate a classroom that provides an alternative setting for children with severe emotional and behavioral disorders. We also have partnerships with three community child care centers, which allows us to serve more eligible children. Our staff speak Karen, Spanish, Somali, Hmong, Oromo, and Amharic and we value each family’s home language by encouraging children to learn their home language as well as English. Families are offered many opportunities to get involved in the program, including planning and attending family events, parent education events, volunteering in the classroom, sitting on Policy Council, participating in employee interviews, and more.
